Q&A

Q: Why is it called a CHALLENGE?

A: We are committed to improving our painting skills through short, daily exercises, 25 minutes each, to build our “painting muscles.” Each day is like a step on a ladder, culminating in a full-length 3-hour alla prima demo session on Saturday. Throughout the workshop, each week focuses on exploring five key components of successful painting: Drawing, Value, Color, Edges, and Composition.

Q: How is it different from the Painting Bootcamp?

A: The Challenge is a natural progression from the Bootcamp, placing a stronger emphasis on practice, shortcuts, and alla prima painting techniques. Designed by Arthur to share his award-winning alla prima method, both the Bootcamp and the Challenge complement each other perfectly, while each remains a well-balanced educational experience on its own.

Q: Does this method apply only to portraits?

A: No, this method is universal and can be applied to any subject. While portraits are an excellent way to build confidence and refine skills, the approach is not limited to them. For those seeking an extra challenge, figure painting and more complex references will be included as part of the homework.

Q: What if I don’t have time for daily exercises?

A: No worries! Every Friday is set aside as a homework day, allowing you to complete all four weekly exercises in a single 2-hour session. Alternatively, you can simply watch the exercises to understand the method’s key principles.

Q: How long are the live sessions?

A: Live sessions (every Saturday 10AM Eastern) are 3 hours of painting practice plus some time for Q&A

Q: What happens if I can't attend the live classes?

A: Don't worry. All classes will be available as recordings on the platform.

Q: Which materials I need to participate in the Bootcamp?

A: Recommended list of materials is published here
